ABOUT YUMI & KORA

YUMI & KORA sarongs are designed to reflect the natural, vibrant beauty of the tropics. Though sarongs are typically worn as a skirt (click here to see how to tie one!), you’ll find that you can use your sarong in a number of ways. It can be used as a blanket for impromptu picnics, as a towel for beach trips, or as a shawl on those chilly flights.

Your sarong will not only become a token of your past travels, but it will become a treasured companion on your future journeys.

HOW THEY'RE MADE

YUMI & KORA sarongs are produced by hand in Indonesia using the wax-resist dyeing technique called batik. Our sarongs are first dyed to the color of the pattern; wax is then stamped onto the fabric using a batik cap (pictured) of the same pattern to preserve the colors. Our original designs are crafted into these batik caps by skilled artisans in Bali.

The dye of the background color is then applied to the sarong, and the wax is melted off using boiling water. The result is a vibrant sarong with contrasting colors and an intricate pattern. Because our sarongs are dyed and stamped by hand, no two sarongs are exactly alike.

ABOUT THE OWNER

I’m Carissa. YUMI & KORA is my ode to Thailand, a country that has shaped much of my adult life. The nature and people of Thailand have taught me to slow down and take in the natural beauty around us that we often overlook.

I still treasure my first sarong from my travels in Bali. It always brings back memories of driving down small roads surrounded by endless rice fields. I hope you, too, can relive those moments of adventure that give you a rich appreciation for life and living.

I love to talk travel - if you’re headed to Thailand soon, don’t be shy to reach out to me on Instagram @yumiandkora!
